Draft Practice Parameters

PROTOCOLS AND STANDING ORDERS

All prehospital providers are expected to follow the Standing Orders and Protocols as written by the SVMCA. We call these collectively "Practice Parameters". It is each EMS provider's responsibility to remain current in the system's practice parameters. These are developed and approved by the Office of the Medical Director, in collaboration with all system's participants and practice partners. The Practice Parameters are also reviewed and approved at the Medical Control Board, and ultimately at the Medical Control Authority level and the state level (Department of Consumer and Industry Services, EMS Section.

Intimate knowledge of the Practice Parameters is necessary in order to provide On-Line Medical Control by the physicians in the emergency department of the receiving facility. Physicians providing direction in the radio (On-Line Medical Control) should know these Practice Parameters and medications as well or better than our medics.

If you are an EMS agency, system participant or practice partner, please click here to our secure site to see the working drafts of our Practice Parameters. Your input is needed, requested, and appreciated. With all our minds and souls together we can continuously improve the care we provide our patients in the prehospital setting.
